Part 7 – Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Ft Lauderdale
We had 5 hours to experience Ft Lauderdale before we were due at the airport. This enabled us to take a sightseeing/shuttle-to-the-airport combo-excursion and explore this port city.

Florida

At our first stop, we took a boat ride around the harbors of Ft Lauderdale and Bahia del Mar, the “Venice of Florida”. Bahia del Mar’s line-up of multi-million dollar palaces/villas (~$50 mil) and yachts (~$300 mil), showcased the mega-rich lifestyle. One thing is to hear/know how some people can be (unreasonably) rich. Another is to see/witness HOW MUCH! Please see below photos and video to get a hint. ;)

We were then taken to Las Olas Blvd, a famous shopping strip for the ‘rich and famous’. High-end stores and eateries abounded. We patronized an Italian confectionary store, Pan’e Dolci and treated ourselves to my favorite ‘lobster tail’!!!

Sfogliatelle - Lobster-tail

Sfogliatelle (called lobster-tail in USA),
means “many leaves/layers,” is a clam-shaped pastry filled with a sweetened ricotta and semolina mixture surrounded by a flaky, crunch shell. Its origin is from the monastery of Santa Rosa in Conca dei Marini in the province of Salerno, Italy, in the 18th century.

It was a superb conclusion to our 14-day trip!

  2. It sounds like you had a great trip. Ft. Lauderdale is a fun town, we usually spend a few days there each year when we visit our children who live in the area.

  3. Lobster tail > bear claw! Where oh where are you off to next, Fae? I want to live vicariously via you.

  4. Yes, FL does collect the wealthy. The weather, the beaches, or the zero income tax? Perhaps all of the above?
