Nara was the capital of Japan from 710 to 784 (8th century). During this period the framework of national government was consolidated and Nara enjoyed great prosperity, emerging as the fountainhead of Japanese culture. The city’s historic monuments – Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines and the excavated remains of the great Imperial Palace – provide a vivid picture of life in the Japanese capital in the 8th century, a period of profound political and cultural change.
The Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara refer to the ruins, 6 temples and 8 primeval forests in the Nara City area. Each temple has many cultural assets designated as national treasures. “Kasugayama Primeval Forest” conserved by the unique Japanese belief in God and their view of nature, has also been registered as a world heritage site.

Japan is just gorgeous! They are doing a good job on conserving the culture while modernising. A good example that the rest of Asian countries need to follow!

Yes, everything is so orderly too. Also, how clever Japanese are in producing beautifully packaged souvenirs specific to the landmark. Both in delicious varieties and beautifully made quality handicrafts. Other Asian countries now seem to be emulating the Japanese and with increasing tourist revenue are slowly able to do so.
