Coffee grinder for saffron:
In almost every Iranian household is a small coffee grinder dedicated to grinding saffron and nothing else. Saffron stigmas are ground by themselves or with a pinch of sugar for quantity. It is done in volume and stored in small spice bottle, ready for cooking use. Store saffron stigmas or the ground saffron in the freezer.

<< Ami-shakushi:
Japanese extremely fine screen-scoop (called gourmet mesh skimmer in the USA >>) is for to removing solids and foam from heated liquids.
It is also great for scooping poached eggs.
At times, gourmet mesh skimmer can be found at housewares stores and they could be pricey, but you will definitely find ami-shakhshi at Japanese dollar stores (maybe for more than a dollar).

Chopsticks: Tapered sticks of variable lengths, used in pairs of equal length (for cooking purposes, best made of bamboo) . Not only used as utensils to eat with but also different lengths made of different material have different uses. I highly recommend that you learn how to use these utensils for versatile usage, especially for cooking (longer lengths). I promise they will be your favorite utensils to work with.
February 6th is National Chopsticks Day!

I need a mandoline!
Where’s the sous-vide water bath?
I couldn’t live without mine anymore…
Fae, thank you for mentioning the freezer, I have been keeping my saffron in the cupboard
Fae, I have never heard of grinding saffron, or storing it in the freezer. Thank you so much for this post!
I need the salad spinner!! And I always have trouble with chopsticks : )
I love my small “salad spinner” which is made of plastic and probably cost a couple of bucks. It’s about 2 or 3 cups, but for herbs: priceless.
Fae-
I still can’t master chopsticks easily. My husband can which irks me to no end!
Love your posts!
Cindy
Try to learn from the instructions I have posted and assistance from your husband. I cook with chopsticks, including barbecue… I do everything with chopsticks. My friends get a kick out of watching me frying, dishing out, or decorating platters with them.
