One of my pet peeves is when before tasting food, people ask for the recipe. In most cases, they never even make the recipe, but they’ve got to have that recipe. Enough on that.
I am an extremely non-superstitious person. When I receive chain e-mails (used to be chain letters) or see the epilogue, “forward this to 10 of your best friends for good luck or otherwise it will bring seven years of bad luck”, my finger can’t fly fast enough to the ‘delete’ key.
A few months ago, I received an e-mail from a very dear friend. After one look at the format of the e-mail, “o’o” I thought, ‘a most unlikely person to send a chain e-mail’. Caring for her, I checked it out. It was a chain-recipe-giving letter. Whew! Nothing about ‘seven years of bad luck’. The e-mail was asking me to send my friend and the person before her (two names on the list) a recipe and forward the e-mail to my friends by replacing my name with the predecessor’s and forward to as many friends as I would like… and so-on-and-so-forth.
I knew exactly who I was going to send the e-mails to!!! My dear friends who are into cooking PLUS people mentioned in my paragraph one (at the top)! I responded back with one of my chicken recipes to the dear friend and her predecessor, and then forwarded the e-mail, according to its instructions, to a handful of my friends… 60 of them!
The very next days, I received only one e-mail with a recipe. It was from my ever-generous and pleasant Filipina cousin, Ruby (my first cousin’s wife). The recipe was for raspberry cake. I was so excited and actually began hoping that there would be more in my in-box soon (no more responses came; I rest my case.). I had to try Ruby’s recipe that day. I did not have raspberries at home but I had blueberries… I did not have buttermilk, which the recipe called for, but I had yogurt. Over time, I added more twists, to come-up with this blueberry cake. Moral of the story, if the chain letter is food related, pay attention! (

Anything food related gets my FULL ATTENTION!!!
Amen!
